The Life and Legacy of Vera Ann Ariza Hudson
Vera Ann Ariza Hudson was born on October 2, 1967, to the late Leonard James and Vera Maten. She departed this life on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at her home in Marksville, Louisiana, at the age of 58.
Vera was educated in Avoyelles Parish and was a proud graduate of Mansura High School. With a heart for caring for others, she pursued a career in healthcare and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She faithfully worked at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, where she provided care and compassion to countless individuals until her health no longer allowed her to continue working.
Vera was a faithful member of First Congregational Baptist Church in Marksville, Louisiana, under the leadership of Pastor C. James Fontenot. Her spirit of service extended beyond the pews, as she was actively involved with the church’s feeding program. Helping others came naturally to Vera, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed.
Those who knew Vera knew that she was full of personality. She was funny, outspoken, and never hesitant to tell you exactly what was on her mind. Her honesty was part of what made her uniquely Vera, and her presence could easily bring laughter and life into a room.
Family held a special place in Vera’s heart. She was the type of person who would go above and beyond for those she loved. Some of her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren, who were truly precious to her.
Vera also knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. She loved eating crawfish, spending time surrounded by family and friends, and creating memories with those closest to her. She especially enjoyed the color pink and had a style and personality all her own.
Left to cherish her loving memory is her husband, Darnell Michael Hudson, Sr.; her two sons, Louis Ariza, III (Edwarnika) and Lorenzo Ariza (Artensia); nine beloved grandchildren; her brother, Ivan O’liney; special family members, Paul O’liney and Melissa; special friends, Carol McReedy, Sharon Perry, and Mavis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and dear friends.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard James and Vera Maten; her late husband, Louis Ariza, II; and her siblings, Gwendolyn Marshall, Christopher O’liney, and Arnold O’liney.
Vera’s life was one marked by laughter, honesty, service, and an unwavering love for her family. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
