The Life and Legacy of Thomas Rogers Gibbs, Jr.
Thomas Rogers Gibbs, Jr. was born on February 26, 1970, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Thomas Rogers Gibbs, Sr. and Bobbie Blue Gibbs. His life was one marked by a love for music, education, creativity, service, family, and community.
Thomas received his education in Louisiana and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. Throughout his professional career, he devoted his talents to helping and inspiring others. He worked as a social worker, serving in areas that included the juvenile justice system, juvenile corrections, and foster care. His work reflected a concern for young people and a desire to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
Thomas later brought his passion for young people and music into the field of public education. He worked with the Rapides Parish School Board as an educator and band director, using music as a means to teach, mentor, encourage, and inspire his students. For Thomas, music was more than a profession—it was an important part of who he was.
A gifted musician, Thomas loved music of all genres. He played the drums and trumpet, as well as other instruments, and possessed a natural appreciation for the many ways music could bring people together. His creativity extended beyond music into art. He enjoyed drawing and created many pictures throughout his life.
Thomas was also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and proudly embraced the fraternity’s colors of purple and gold.
When he was not working, teaching, creating art, or enjoying music, Thomas could often be found supporting his favorite sports team, the New Orleans Saints. Whether through music, sports, art, education, or simply spending time with those closest to him, Thomas embraced the things that brought joy and meaning to his life.
On August 14, 1993, Thomas was united in marriage to Evangeline Regina Davis Gibbs. Their marriage became an important part of the life they shared together over the years. Thomas cherished his family and the relationships that surrounded him.
Thomas departed this life on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in Alexandria, Louisiana, at the age of 56.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Rogers Gibbs, Sr.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Evangeline Gibbs; his son, Brilon Thomas Gibbs; his mother, Bobbie Blue Gibbs; his sister, Tekedra Gibbs; his nephews and niece, Chuncy Roger Gibbs, Tyler Davis, and Taylor Davis; along with extended family members, friends, colleagues, students, fraternity brothers, and countless others whose lives were touched by his presence.
Thomas Rogers Gibbs, Jr. leaves behind a legacy that can be heard in the music he shared, seen in the art he created, reflected in the students he taught, and remembered through the family and friends who loved him. His contributions as an educator, musician, mentor, social worker, and family man will remain a meaningful part of his lasting memory.
