The Life and Legacy of Ronnie George Shinhoster
Ronnie George Shinhoster was born on August 21, 1960, in Pineville, Louisiana, to the late Jack W. Shinhoster, Sr. and Missouri Sowell Shinhoster. On Monday, August 31, 2026, Ronnie peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at his home in Alexandria, Louisiana, at the age of 66.
Ronnie was educated in the Rapides Parish area and was a proud graduate of Alexandria Senior High School, Class of 1978. He later pursued college studies, further preparing himself for a life characterized by knowledge, discipline, hard work, and service.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Ronnie devoted a significant portion of his life to serving his country. His military career and professional training led him into the field of avionics maintenance, where he worked as an Avionics Maintenance Technician. His technical ability reflected who he was naturally—a true “project man” who enjoyed taking things apart, understanding how they worked, and putting them back together. There was rarely a project too complicated for Ronnie to research, study, and tackle. He was exceptionally handy, hardworking, dedicated, and dependable.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ronnie’s greatest devotion was found in his faith, his family, and his church.
Ronnie was a faithful member of Refuge Church, under the leadership of Bishop A. James Vallier. His commitment to the ministry went far beyond simply attending worship services. He faithfully served as a Deacon, a position he held close to his heart and took very seriously. Ronnie believed that those serving in ministry should represent their calling with dignity and excellence, and he was known for making sure the deacons always “looked the part.”
His service to Refuge Church was extensive. Throughout the years, Ronnie served as a Sunday School teacher, sound technician, church van driver, and assisted with the finances of the church. He was often among the first to arrive to open the church and the last to leave when the work was complete. Whatever needed to be done, Ronnie could be counted on to lend his hands, knowledge, time, and support. His faithful service within the COOLJC was a reflection of his genuine love for God and the church.
Ronnie was also an avid researcher with an inquisitive mind. He enjoyed learning and finding answers for himself. Away from work and church, he loved to fish, work on various projects, and spend time caring for his plants. Blessed with a green thumb, he found enjoyment in watching the things he tended grow and flourish.
Above all else, Ronnie loved his family, especially his girls. His daughters held a special place in his heart, and his love for his children and grandchildren was evident throughout his life. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, relative, church member, and friend whose presence could be depended upon.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Jack W. Shinhoster, Sr. and Missouri Sowell Shinhoster.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three daughters, Yathisa S. Shinhoster, Athena Shinhoster, and Akeria Shinhoster; three brothers, Jack Shinhoster, Jr., David Shinhoster, and Leonard Shinhoster; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, his beloved Refuge Church family, and many friends.
Ronnie George Shinhoster lived a life of service—service to his country, service to his church, and service to those he loved. His hardworking spirit, devotion to ministry, willingness to help, and unwavering faithfulness will remain a treasured part of his legacy. Though his earthly work is now complete, the example he established will continue to live in the hearts and lives of all who were blessed to know him.
