The Life and Legacy of Robert Louis Thomas
November 23, 1937 – October 2, 2026
Robert Louis Thomas ( Bob T ) was born on November 23, 1937, in Oxford, Louisiana, to the union of the late Louis Thomas and Nona Garrett Thomas. He was blessed with 88 years of life before departing this earthly life on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Robert was educated in DeSoto and Rapides Parish. He briefly attended Peabody High School. During his school years, he was especially gifted with numbers, a skill that came naturally to him and remained a part of who he was throughout his life.
As a young man, Robert ventured beyond Louisiana in pursuit of greater opportunities. He spent time in Seattle, Washington, where he worked for Boeing Aircraft . In 1969, he relocated to New York City, where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to become self-employed. He owned and operated Bob & T's Variety Store which became a safe space for children and families in the community. He built his life through hard work and determination.
Robert was best described as a quiet laid-back man with an easygoing nature. He was never pushy and preferred to handle life calmly and peacefully. He possessed a caring spirit and had a natural way of looking after those around him. Although he was not a disciplinarian, he was deeply family-oriented and very protective of those he loved.
Robert’s favorite pastimes were working in the yard, watching westerns and playing scratch-off tickets. He also had a special fascination with the weather. Robert could often be found watching weather reports from across the country, especially keeping track of conditions wherever his children and loved ones happened to be. If storms, extreme temperatures, or changing conditions were headed their way, Robert made sure his family knew about it. It was one of the many simple ways he showed his love and concern for them.
Above all, Robert loved God . All during his life he trusted in God. His quiet presence, protective nature, and concern for others will remain lasting memories for all who were blessed to know and love him.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Thomas and Nona Garrett Thomas; his beloved wife, Thelma Lee Foster Thomas; his sister, Pearlie Mae T. Williams; and his brother, Joe Louis Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Warren Thomas (Regina) of Avenel, New Jersey, Wanda Thomas of Alexandria, Louisiana, Jennifer Thomas (Lewis Canty) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Panetta Thomas of Denham Springs, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Brandon, Christian, Paige, and Blake; three great-grandchildren, Tianni, Brandon Jr. (BJ), Gyft, and one great - great grand daughter Summer.
He also leaves behind his siblings, Curtis L.Thomas, Ella Mae Lewis, Samuel L. Thomas, Sr. (Pamela), Patsy Ann Thomas-Hill, and Linda Monette-Broussard; two sisters-in-law, Idell Norman (Percy) and Lillie B.
