Myrtis Radford

–

Alexandria , Louisiana

With heartfelt admiration, we celebrate the life of Myrtis Radford, a resilient woman of faith and pillar of her community. Born to Andrew and Willie Mae Young in Boyce, LA, on October 19, 1953, Myrtis lived a full and vibrant life until her transition on June 25, 2025. Her charisma and wit brought joy to those around her, making her a cherished friend, a beloved mother, and an adored grandmother. She earned her diploma from Wettermark High School in 1971. Myrtis was a woman of many talents - her melodious voice gracing the choirs of The Little Angelics, The Boyce Community Chorus, The United Voices, and the St. Matthew Baptist Church Choir. Her love for music was only paralleled by her dedication to her career in law enforcement, where she served as a Police Dispatcher for the Town of Boyce, a role she held with distinction until her retirement.

Myrtis was a woman of strong faith, baptized twice, first at Union Chapel Methodist Church by Rev. Charlie Green and again at age 12 by Rev. Howard Ellis. She was a devoted member of the First Church of God in Christ in Rigolette, LA, and later, the St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Frank Jackson. Her faith was a shining light that guided her through many of life's challenges. As it is written in the book of 2 Timothy 4:6, "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing".

Above all, Myrtis was devoted to her family. She was the proud and loving mother of eight children: David Young, Trecina Vigus-Lemott (Maurice), Jac Vigus, and Kenneth Vigus, all of Oklahoma City, OK; Broderick Young (Yolanda), Treana Young Miller (Eugene), and Roddricka Millner, all of Alexandria, LA, and LaTercial Millner of Dallas, TX. She was a doting grandmother to thirty-five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her momory four beloved siblings, Diane Jefferson of Boyce, LA, Russell Young (Donna) and Jackie Ray Young (Ana) of Houston, TX, and Andrew Young, III (Natalie) of Lima, Ohio; Sisters in law; Freida James (John) and Leschia Radford; and goddaughter, Ebony Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Myrtis had special bonds with many people, including her oldest living friend, Mary Lee Morgan; Sharon Jones, Brenda Branch, and Robert Gaston, Sr.

Myrtis was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Emmanuel Radford; parents, Andrew and Willie Mae Young; daughter, Myrtis Yvonne Young; grandsons, Gavin Emmanuel Winbush and Darrell Green; great-grandson, Jeremiah Zain Coutee; and her godson, Jarvis "Poncho" Jones. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her legacy of love, faith, and resilience continues to inspire all who knew her.

A public viewing and visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 9:00 am CDT at St Matthew Baptist Church, 5605 Old Boyce Rd., Boyce, Louisiana, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am CDT. Myrtis will be laid to rest at St. Matthew Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:45 am CDT. We invite you to share your memories of Myrtis and upload photos on her memorial page, to celebrate and remember the remarkable life she lived.
