Jestina Jones Croute Obituary (1929 - 2024)

Sister Jestina Jones Croute was born on May 4, 1929, to the late Walter and the late Pearly Jones in Lebeau, Louisiana. Sister Jestina received Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Lott. She later married the late Joseph Ashton Croute amd to this union, 9 children were born. Sister Jestina was a faithful member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she served in various capacities. She served as an member of the Prayer Band, Senior Mission Ministries, Deaconess and the mother of the church. She served faithfully until God called her home. She also worked for Worked for Mother Hubbard Headstart, Joan of Arc, and the Green Thumb Program. Jestina was a devoted mother to her children bringing them up in church and setting examples for them to follow. She loved having family gatherings. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32; and be kind and compassionate to one another, forgive one another just as God also forgave you in Christ. She was passionate about reading the Bible and praying. She enjoyed going to church, watching her favorite tv shows, talking on the telephone and sitting on her porch in the summer months. She also enjoyed shopping, and cooking until she was no longer physically able to do so. Left to cherish her memories: one son, James Croute of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; seven daughters, Dira Lee Croute of Cedar Hill, Texas, Shirley Cannady (George) of Pearland, Texas, Bertha Croute of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Betty Drummer of Simmesport, Louisiana, Jessie Croute of Hessmer, Louisiana, Joycie Croute of Pasadena, Texas, and Priscilla Jacob of Simmesport, Louisiana. One sister, Pearly Andrews of Seattle, Washington; one brother, J.D. Jones (Irma) of Mansura, Louisiana, (22) grandchildren, (24) great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jestina was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Croute; father, Walter Jones; mother, Pearly Jones; her son, Easter Croute; two sisters, Anna Jones and Eula Scott; five brothers, Nel Jones, Sidney Jones, Arthur Jones, Lawrence Jones, and Willie Jones.
