The Life and Legacy of Greta Marie Moore
July 27, 1956 – September 20, 2026
Greta Marie Moore was born on July 27, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Herbert T. Golden, Sr. and Dora Lee Williams Golden Fairman. She was blessed with 70 years of life before peacefully transitioning from this earthly life on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at her home in Pineville, Louisiana.
Greta was educated in the New Orleans public school system and attended Francis T. Nicholls High School. She continued her education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.
Throughout her professional career, Greta dedicated many years to the healthcare industry. While living in New Orleans, she was employed by Hotel Dieu Hospital. Following Hurricane Katrina, Greta relocated to the Alexandria area and continued building a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She later worked at Huey P. Long Medical Center, where she served in dietary services and eventually retired. Never one to remain idle for long, Greta also worked at Burkes Outlet.
Faith remained an important part of Greta’s life. While residing in New Orleans, she was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church. After relocating to Central Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina, she united with Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, where she became a faithful and active member. She willingly shared her time and talents through the Kitchen Committee and the League of Women, and she faithfully served as Secretary of the Ministry Board.
Affectionately described as an “Energizer Bunny,” Greta possessed a lively spirit and seemingly endless energy. She enjoyed staying active and being involved, but above all, she treasured her family. She loved cooking and found great enjoyment in watching cooking and chef shows, especially those featuring Gordon Ramsay. She also enjoyed watching tennis, cheering for the New Orleans Saints, and proudly supporting her grandchildren at their sporting events.
Greta was family-oriented in every sense of the word. Her greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved and creating memories with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Her favorite color was blue, particularly royal blue, a fitting reflection of the vibrant and spirited woman she was.
On July 26, 1985, Greta was united in marriage to Lawrence Dudley Moore, Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana. Together, they shared more than four decades of marriage, companionship, family, and cherished memories.
Greta was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert T. Golden, Sr. and Dora Lee Williams Golden Fairman, as well as her grandparents.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted husband, Lawrence D. Moore, Sr.; two children, Kiandra Golden and Lawrence D. Moore, Jr.; five grandchildren, Lawrence D. Moore, III, Larenzo Moore, Kaden Reed, Kadence Reed, and Londyn Moore; seven siblings, Gaynell Cooley, Leannease O’Connor (Calvin), Cindy Patin (Christopher), Herbert Golden, Jr., Iris Manuel (Don), Chanell Lucas (Terry), and Nina Golden Bailey; two godchildren, Shawn Manuel and Christopher Patin, Jr.; her beloved best friend, Shirley Fletcher (Harold); three nephews whom she lovingly raised as grandsons, Lance Hill, Lavance Hill, and Landric Hill; one aunt, Joyce Thompson (Frank); and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
