Etheline Wright Obituary (1940 - 2023)

Matthew 11:28 Life's earthly journey for Sister Etheline Wright began on March 23, 1940, being born to the late Reverend H.Y. Wright, Jr., and Sister Selena Jones-Wright. She was the fifth child of eleven children born into this spirit-filled family. Sister Wright was baptized at an early age by her father the late Reverend H.Y. Wright, Jr., at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Simmesport, Louisiana. Sister Wright was a faithful member and served faithfull until her health failed. Sister Etheline was phenomenal in all that she did. She embraced characteristics of perfection. She was nurturing, yet chastising; she was firm, but tender; bold but humble; filled with wisdom, and demonstrated compassion. There was never a mouth that she would not feed, a thirst she would not quench, a body she did not clothe, or a house she did not furnish. She became affectionately known as "Aunt Pig," "Aunt Ethel," and by close family as "Peggy Lynn." She loved working with her hands. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, carpentry, plumbing, and raising livestock. She most loved spending time with family and friends. When her earthly vessel no longer allowed her to work, she enjoyed sitting in her favorite spot just looking out at it all. Upon God's demand, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Sister Etheline Wright was ushered into her heavenly home following the reading of God's word and the declaration of Our Father's Prayer. Holding onto cherished and loving memories, she leaves behind: a loving and devoted companion, Raymond Scott; two daughters, Carla Lynette Wright of Baton Rouge, LA and Charlotte Andrea Wright of Simmesport, LA; a precious adopted daughter, Ke'Iree Simmons of Houma, LA; four grandchildren, Sherlyn Wright of Baton Rouge, LA, D'Litra Wright of New Roads, LA, and Tedrick and Mecola Wright, both of Simmesport, LA; eight great-grandchildren, Ajhani, A'Nijah, Jaioni, A'Jhari, A'Nhari, Jai'Ahri, Jer'Myni, and Kohen; two sisters, Clynethia Anderson of Simmesport, LA, and Melvenia Brady of Baton Rouge, LA (who joined her very briefly after her departure); two brothers, Cleveland Wright of Simmesport, LA, and Reverend Clayton Wright (Stephanie) of Houston, TX; three sisters-in-law, Lorena Wright of Simmesport, Willie Mae Wright of Batchelor, LA, and Debra Wyatt-Wright of Baton Rouge, LA; six godchildren, Pastor Cheryl Jackson, Marlania Wright, Loyalte Hicks, Lorryell Hicks, Denell Vincent, and Lorenzo Sago; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Sister Etheline was preceded in death by her parents, aforementioned; five brothers, Leroy Wright, Reverend Henry Wright III, Onelious Wright, Sr., Clifton Wright, and Fredrick Wright; one sister, Verna Mae Gilbert; and son-in-law, Otis Thompson.
