Charles Henry Monk Jr. Obituary (1946 - 2024)

ALEXANDRIA - Charles Henry Monk, Jr., age 78, passed on Monday, December 9, 2024 at his residence. A service honoring his life and legacy will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 5605 Old Boyce Rd., Boyce, LA 71409. Public Viewing & Visitation will begin at 9:00 and continue until the start of service 11:00 am. Mr. Monk will be laid to rest in the church cemetery immediately following the service. Please keep the Monk Family in prayer. ~Miller & Hill "The Funeral Directors" OBITUARY Charles Henry Monk Jr. (Lil' Henry), was born on November 27, 1946, in Cheneyville, Louisiana to the late Henry Monk Sr. and Mary Stewart Monk. Charles was baptized as a child at Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, in Pineville, La., by the late Rev. Hall. He later joined St. Matthew Baptist Church, where he served as a dedicated Usher for over twenty-five years, until he was no longer able to serve. Charles attended Kelso Elementary in Pineville, Louisiana, and Peabody High School. After high school, Charles immediately moved into the workforce. Charles began his career working at J&M Chicken Poultry during the day, while also working at ServiceMaster Restoration Services at night. After working both jobs for several years, he was given the opportunity to begin working at Central State Hospital as a Laundry Technician. Charles retired from Central State Hospital after 42 years of service. Within those 42 years, rain, sleet or snow, Charles missed only 14 days of work. After retirement, Charles decided to go back to work at Mac's Grocery at the tender age of 77, where he enjoyed greeting and talking to everyone who came to the store. He was employed at Mac's Grocery for about one year. Charles was not one who allowed his age to sit him down. He was very active in his neighborhood where he lived. He worked very hard helping his neighbors any way that he could. He cut their lawns, watched his neighbor's kids as they played outside, hauling away junk and provided transportation when needed. His favorite motto was "if you have the money, I have the time." Charles never met a stranger and was always willing to help any way he could. Charles moved from Pineville, Louisiana to Alexandria, Louisiana, when he was united in Holy Matrimony to Betty Mae Chew. They were married for forty-two years, until she passed away on April 3, 2019. On December 9, 2024. God called his child home. Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother-Henry Monk, Sr. and Mary Stewart Monk; His grandparents, Charles (Bud) Monk and Gertrude Willis Monk; Dan Stewart and Helen Scott Stewart; his first wife-Paulette Bennett Monk (five years of marriage), his second wife-Betty Mae Monk(42 years of marriage), son-Charles Christopher Monk, grandson-Andre Marshall, nephew-Jordan Frazier and his uncle-Clarence Monk. Charles leaves to cherish his memories, his sister Helen Frazier (Henry); sons, Glen Monk, Christopher Monk(Towanna), Kelvin Chew(Kristina); daughters, Helen Faye Marshall(Chris), Gwen Monk Lewis, Laurie Tucker(Charles); his aunt Ollie Jean Butler,13 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives; and special friends, Chris Lavalais, Joe Swafford, Ryan Wilmore, Leroy Ross and the Grundy Cooper Subdivision.
